Gary Bennett

Education

Gary attended Loyalist Collegiate in Kingston and graduated from Queen’s University with an Honours BA and a Master’s in Public Administration from the School of Policy Studies.

Life in the Public Sector

He was first elected to Kingston City Council in 1988 and served two terms as a member of City Council and went on to serve two terms as Mayor of the City of Kingston.

During his time in office, Gary served on numerous boards and organizations including the Kingston Library Board, the Police Services Board, the Board of Health, the District Health Council and the Community Foundation of Greater Kingston.

Gary has also chaired the United Way of Kingston and has served on numerous other boards and organizations in the City of Kingston since leaving public office including the Kingston General Hospital Foundation and the City of Kingston’s Non-Profit Housing Corporation (Town Homes Kingston).

Business Background

Prior to entering public office, Gary was active in his family’s business (Bennett’s Foods) a local food retailer that was first established in Kingston in 1917. More recently, Gary has become a self-employed business person working in the property and asset management business in the City of Kingston.
