Ontario Auditor General Says Deficit is $11.7B, not $6.7BPublished on April 27, 2018
The recent announcement by the Auditor General of Ontario concerning the actual state of Ontario’s finances is both disturbing and self-serving. This is more than an accounting disagreement. Issuing misleading financial statements and understating the true value of future deficits and will only hide the true costs of Kathleen Wynne’s reckless spending and mismanagement. The Liberal legacy of billions of dollars of debt is a disservice to future generations of Ontarians. We can and must do better managing the financial affairs of Ontario.
“When expenses are understated, the perception is created that government has more money available than it actually does,” Bonnie Lysyk, Ontario's auditor general, wrote in a scathing 27-page pre-election report to the Legislature. (DARREN CALABRESE / THE CANADIAN PRESS FILE PHOTO)
